Personal:

I am a former runner who took the sport back up about 3 1/2 years ago. In the preceeding 20+ years I was a 2 pack a day smoker and the only excercise I recieved was summer softball. Needless to say; it was time for a change.

LSD with Dave this morning.  10 miles in 1:23 for a 8:20 pace. It's the best I've felt since Boston but my hip was bothering me after tweaking it Saturday.  At least my energy seems to be coming back.

6 miles at 8:00 pace.  It felt great out there today.  I am definetly recovering nicely.  I just have to stay smart and not do too much too soon.

So much for feeling better.  Today was a big time struggle as my legs just didn't want to respond. It wasn't that they were sore but more that they were incredibly sluggish. 8:45's and they felt even slower than that. Tommorrow's another day.

Three straight days off after having a horrible run on Wednesday. That was the same amount of time I took off after Boston and I obviously needed the rest.  Today's run started off slow but picked up as we went along.  It was a little breezy out there but still spring like.  10k training to start in a week, health permitting.

Took it nice and easy and still felt tired.  My energy has still not returned.  Let's see what tommorrow brings.

I headed out for 5 to see how I felt in back to back days when I met up with Lenny.  Added another mile plus to the run.   It felt pretty good today so that makes me feel like there's hope for starting real workouts next week.  Run tommorrow?  We'll see how the day goes at work.  A big push on finishing up on the Menemsha house.  Maybe a late nite of work. :(

5 easy miles this morning.  I felt pretty good for a change.  Long run tommorrow.

11 miles at 8:15's with Dave.  We got off road a few of them which slowed us down but it felt good!  Didn't feel like we were pushing at all but felt comfortable, not dragging.  Feeling good after back to back runs. Hmm. Feels like recovery. :)

Easy recovery run today.  Still feeling good but thinking twice about hitting the track tommorrow.  I just found out I didn't get into the Falmouth Road Race this year which has historicaly been my summer target race. I'm a little bummed about it but I guess that means I have an opportunity to do something different.  Maybe I'll find myself a trail race somewhere's close by and give that a try.

As I head into the shorter distance races this summer, my former high school coach has recommended that I give HIIT (high intensity interval training) a shot to increase my over-all speed.  I hadn't heard of it, but after reading a couple of articles I've decided to give it a shot.  I did my firrst workout today and must say; at least it's a quick workout!   30 seconds of almost max effort followed by a 15 second recovery X 8 reps.  Thats 12 minutes of running.  It was a nice change to go out and run as fast as possible but kind of depressing at the same time.  I feel so slow!  I have to keep reminding myself that I'm not 18 anymore. :)   The fact that it was pouring rain didn't help any either.  Now I just need to figure out if I can live with doing this 3 times a week with only one other run; my long one.  I'm going to give it 2 weeks and see.

Tough work week kept me from getting out there as much as I would have liked.  I felt really good today though.  Miles averaged about 7:30's with very little effort to push the pace.  Long run tommorrow so we'll see how I bounce back.

I went out and did 7 with Pat and Dave before Pat peeled off.  Dave and I then ran an additional 3.5 before I finished up with 3.5 on my own.  We started off pretty easily with 8:45's running through the woods with tough footing but sped up after a couple and continued to go faster as the run progressed.  My last 3.5 by myself were around 8 flat and I felt great.  With perfect weather I really didn't want to stop.  I am definetly back and recovered from Boston.  Now I just need to find a race to help keep me focused and motivated.
