As I head into the shorter distance races this summer, my former high school coach has recommended that I give HIIT (high intensity interval training) a shot to increase my over-all speed. I hadn't heard of it, but after reading a couple of articles I've decided to give it a shot. I did my firrst workout today and must say; at least it's a quick workout! 30 seconds of almost max effort followed by a 15 second recovery X 8 reps. Thats 12 minutes of running. It was a nice change to go out and run as fast as possible but kind of depressing at the same time. I feel so slow! I have to keep reminding myself that I'm not 18 anymore. :) The fact that it was pouring rain didn't help any either. Now I just need to figure out if I can live with doing this 3 times a week with only one other run; my long one. I'm going to give it 2 weeks and see. |
