Personal:

I am a former runner who took the sport back up about 3 1/2 years ago. In the preceeding 20+ years I was a 2 pack a day smoker and the only excercise I recieved was summer softball. Needless to say; it was time for a change.

Not a lot of sleep last night as I had to get up early to prep and put the turkey in the oven. Still felt pretty good though.  This is a small race so my second place finish wasn't too surprising.  The race went off at 8:30 am with temps around 38 degrees. I tried realy hard not to go out too fast and I probably ended up  going out to slow. A 6:25 first mile was definetly slower than I had wanted.  The good news was that all my miles were negative splits.

6:25  6:03  5:58  I averaged  about 6:07's for the whole race.  I was happy with my time as historicaly this race is slow- everyone felt it was a bit long. Personaly I thought it was fine.  With the milage I've been putting in lately I didn't expect too much. Plus with another race on Saturday, it's nice to have somewhere to improve to.

Nice result. 2nd place, congrats! My best in 5k is 24 min and I only smoked 1 pack a day!

Good job.

Thanks for the encouragement. Second place was nice and all but I was more happy with the time. Injuries have reaked havoc on me since January so I'm just happy to be running pain free. I've been quit smoking for over 7 years now and kick myself every time I think about how stupid I was. Better late than never. I also noted that your times have been coming down pretty consistantly. I don't think that 24 minute 5k will stand for much longer.

Thanks; I've been training harder now. I'm finally coming out of the aquilles tendon injury. But I'm also taking it gently.

Injuries, yeah, what a pain! Wish there was a magic pill or something...

Cheers & have a great weekend.
